Ethereal movement within the darkness, a sky spotted with stars, esoteric symbols. An invitation for meditation, tolling bells, flower buds, glass vials, and candlelight. My photo series, Luna (2020), and video, Esbat (2020) evoke private, witchy rituals of potions made and spells cast in the dead of night. In my artistic practice, connection to nature is paramount. Here, I explore a spiritual aspect of this connection, through the lens of Wiccan practice.

In Luna, I use the intuitive movement of my body to evoke a sense of the energetic qualities of the moon’s changing phases. Identifying each phase are sigils. Uniquely personal spiritual symbols, sigils are often used as tools for manifestation or meditation. Here, they serve to highlight my subjective experience of and connection to the moon's cycles. In a similar way, Esbat documents elements of a highly personalised full moon ritual. Together, Luna and Esbat reflect Wiccan celebration of moon phases and natural phenomena, while emphasising the largely individualistic and open-source nature of such a faith. Placed within the digital realm, my works reference techno-paganism. Instead of utilising the internet to establish connection with other practitioners, however, I use the digital space as a platform to investigate and share the intersection of my spiritual beliefs and artistic practice.

Luna and Esbat relate more broadly to the thematic of cycle, ritual, and routine in Ether. Like Nicholas' self-reflexive mind-maps, my works represent key processes that are repeated time after time. Also a recurrent undertone is that of time and its passing. Just as you could spend hours playing Isabella's esc or searching for all the different paths in Zara's quiz, the moon and its cyclical waxing and waning represent an endless temporal expanse.
